The Race for the Stuff

Image
Valinda Mae Stuffins sat in her chair, The dates on the calendar caused her to stare, They proclaimed that the date was soon to be here, The date that she waited for all through the year. The day it was circled and gave her no doubt,  "The race for the stuff!" she said with a shout. Valinda's house, it was filled to the brim, But, she knew something was missing, and she tapped on her chin, Then, she saw it,  one nook that was empty and bare, "I must have some stuff for that space right there!" And then there was Bobby, and Suzy, and Jim, "I must buy stuff. And give stuff, to each one of them. For surely they have empty nooks just like mine, And they need stuff to fill them, there isn't much time." Her life it seemed empty, so stuff she must get, Just a few more things and then she'd be set, "I need golf clubs, and mixers, and lovely stuffed pheasants, And, soon, I'll also get more stuff...

Turkey Awards

Image
tur-key         slang - a person or thing of little appeal; dud; loser In honor of Thanksgiving, and our 'almost' national bird, today I am handing out my First  Annual 'frazzled & frumpy' Turkey Awards.   (I'm sure you all can't wait to find out what's bugging me today.)  #4- The Mechanical Graveyard. That would be my house. If it runs on some kind of power, then it comes here to die. Just when the Handy Man got my car working, the dryer quit. My living room is now a makeshift clothesline.   If I ever wanted to be a pioneer this has squashed that desire. I should put up little headstones in my yard for each of the appliances/techno-gadgets/cars that have perished here. It'd be great for Halloween. #3 - The Calorie Police. I do not need anyone telling me what, or how much, to eat on Thanksgiving. Okay, maybe my entire day's consumption will equal 4500 calories.  It isn't like I eat that way everyday. So, quit telli...

Cheating on Thanksgiving with Christmas

Image
It snowed today, and I listened to Christmas music. I'm not ashamed. OK, maybe a little. Thing is, I love Christmas music. It brings back so many good memories of stacking those black LPs on the record player. Also, it's calming and joyful.  Most of it, anyway.  I refuse to listen to a few songs, like 'Rockin Around the Christmas Tree' and 'Jingle Bell Rock'.  Those two grate on my nerves like a 2 year-old whinefest. A friend pointed out to me that I shouldn't forget Thanksgiving.  I know.  It sort of gets lost between the candy orgy and Santa visits.  I read on facebook about one woman who puts up her tree while the kids are trick-or-treating.  I'm not quite that bad.  I do love my Christmas decorations though and feel like I want more time with them.  I stood in the garage today looking at the boxes longingly.  I. Love. Them.  Why don't I marry them? I would, but my husband might take offense to me becoming a polygamist with ga...
