Last Minute FHE

"You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... " -Napoleon Dynomite
Would you call procrastination a skill? Okay, I know the answer, but, really, when you do something so well, you should be able to call it that. I would be a member of Procrastinators Anonymous if there was such a thing. I know it's something I need to work on, but after 40-some years, it's not easy. I keep thinking of ways to improve, but I figure I can start on it next week. I think when people put "works well under pressure" on a job application is just a nice way to say, "I'm a procratinator." Need to write a talk? I'll think about it alot, but usually write it the night before. Prescription need filling? That usually happens the day after I run out.
So, if there are any of you who share my particular skill, here's a little help for those Monday night panics when you realize you forgot to plan for Family Home Evening.

Last Minute Family Home Evening #1

Opening Song: "Count Your Blessings" Hymns pg. 241
Scripture: D&C 130: 21 "And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it was predicated."
After the prayer, tell your children you're going on a blessing hunt. Have them close their eyes then lead them to their room(s). Sit them down and explain that there are many children in the world who don't have nice bedrooms, with comfy beds, clothes to wear and toys to play with. (No, son, I don't mean they go around naked, they just have one set of clothes.) Then tell them they are to count their blessings as they pick them up and put them away. (If your kids rooms are always clean, this won't work so well, but you could have them count what's in the drawers. Not as much fun for you.) When they're finished, tell them there are two more blessings they now have, and ask if they can guess what they are. "A puppy? A pony? An ice cream?" No. You now have a clean room and more importantly, a happy mom-which is one of the greatest blessings. Just ask your dad.
Closing song: "When We're Helping We're Happy" Children's Song Book pg. 198
Treat: Blessings Trail Mix. (Mix together those half-bags of cheese crackers, chips and cereal.) Enjoy!
