Why I Love Where I Live- Jet Noise

Image
Photo original here . I  live just a mile from Hill Air Force Base --and directly in the flight path of the planes. After eight years, it hasn't gotten old. I love listening to the jet noise and seeing them soar over our city. This weekend is their air show , which I'm sad to say, I'll be missing. Lucky me, they've been practicing today, and watching them has proven that even jets can be poetic. Soar Flocks fly across the horizon, Their metallic wings gleam gray and blue, With dizzying speed they ascend, Their cries rumbling, thundering, Stirring emotion and pride, Trailing clouds of patriotism in their wake.

For Mother's Day

Image
She She is not hidden, silent or withdrawn. She is there, if I seek Her. She is in the craggy mountain peaks, Snow covered, tree lined majesty. I see her in the brilliant blue of sky, She lives in the curve of my body, And, the soft lines on my face. I hear her voice in the song of wind Lifting poplar leaves. She is in the call of hawks, grand and resonant, She echoes in the sweet, simple sound of my child’s laughter. I smell her when the breeze Carries the scent of spring, Cherry blossoms, lilacs, petunias. She is there in fall, In the crisp air, the fragrance of earth preparing to rest, The taste of tart apples, sweet plums, A bountiful harvest. She is in the taste of salty tears Filled with sorrow or joy. I feel her in the cool of rain on my skin, In the warm sun, the tingle of breeze, A lover’s touch. She is in my heart, each and every beat, I feel her reflected in the love I have For family, friends, Nature. She is not hidden, silent or withdr...

In Between

Image
The trees have let go and shed their fancy, fall dresses. They stand bare against the blue sky, proud in their nakedness. Soon, snow will fall and cling to branches wide and narrow. They will wait amid the cold and gray, patient, for spring. I too, am in between. I have dropped old habits, ideas and fears. I shake myself, to discard the image of who I thought I was. And wait for my springtime to reveal my true self, blossoming, blooming, stretching toward the sun.

Foreshadowing

Image
Foreshadowing  My pages are tattered, torn, Well worn. Each chapter brings new beginnings, And change. I have eagerly leafed through, Moments, days, years, Watching my story grow. This new page is crisp, white. A chapter filled with promise, For growth. And pain. I tease the paper, Curling its edge, I am unprepared for this plot twist. In the end, I have no choice.  I turn the page, And read.

Empty

Image
No words Only letters Set In random order. No sense Like a dream Remembered In bits and pieces. Tripping, falling, Grasping The ground beneath Suddenly Gone.

Winter is a Poem

Image
Mother Nature came raging, Trailing her white cape behind her. Heavy white flakes sailed down, A thick, frozen blanket. The wind gusts and makes me Breathless. Home is a blessing. Walls and roof that shelter, Heat that sighs through floor vents, Blankets, pillows and nightlights. We gather in rooms in groups, Watching and playing and reading, Secure in our haven, While the world outside is swirling and cold. Perhaps tomorrow, The sun will smile And light the ground like diamonds. Children will play and romp, Red cheeked and bright eyed.   For now, I watch through windows, A world that is covered in marshmallow fluff. Everything is soft and rounded, Hills and valleys, drooping trees. A perfect winter wonderland.

Poetry

I know spring is supposed to already be here. But, where I live, winter is reluctant to let go.  Winter is sort of like a pregnancy, you know it can't last forever, but you start to feel like it'll never end. Those aren't my tulips in the picture. (morguefile.com)  My tulips are just now getting buds. They make me hopeful, though. And that's what spring is all about. In Search of Spring The snow sheathed earth Thirsts for sunshine, Fertile flowers wait Impatiently, Longing for their breathless Debut. Bursts of color anticipate their Welcome Of the change of season. And, I.. I wait. Watching for any sign That the long, cold, Dark winter Has finally given up the ghost, That spring, Splendid spring, With it’s life and Endless promise, Is assuredly, undoubtedly, Here. -Jewels

Maybe........and Many thanks

First, I have to thank everyone who left me a comment on yesterday's post.  Your encouragement and faith in me means so much. You might think it's just a comment, but believe me, it isn't.  Your support is what keeps me going and makes me believe in myself. So,  Thank You!   Consider this your virtual flowers and chocolates that I'd send to each of you, if I could. It's National Poetry Month. I haven't written poetry in a long time. But, it's where my roots in writing lie.  So, I decided to try and write something.  I didn't start out with the idea of  bullying, but that's where it went.  I wouldn't say I was bullied as a child, but I was teased for various reasons. I remember the ache of wanting to fit in and knowing I didn't.  This isn't a happy poem and for that, I apologize. Maybe next time. Maybe She walks the halls, feet heavy. Her hand-me-down shoes show wear. Fingers worry the hem of her shirt, Eyes down,...

A Christmas Gift

One Star Millions of people, The heavens filled with stars. Multitudes of angels, Buildings near and far. One silent stable,  One messenger so bright, One star is blazing, One baby born this night. One manger holds him, One mother softly sings, All hearts enfold him, And the promise that he brings. One night among many, When faithful knees would bend, For our one perfect Savior, One hope, without end.                                                                                               (-Jewels 2008) Merry Christmas                                                                 ...

National Poetry Month

This one is for real. I've been writing poetry since I was a little girl, it was my first form of written expression. So, in honor of this month, I thought that I would share one of my poems. This one is sort of old, but I like it. I couldn've tried to write one, but with the way I'm feeling it'd be something about how men should get to have cramps or how being overweight should be considered desirable. So, to spare you my sarcasm, here it is. Drought Love flows, Like water over parched earth, From heart to heart. Bringing new, green life To all it touches. I have stood in summer storms, As the heavens opened And love poured from the sky. Drenched, I shivered, Not at the cold, But, because of abundance. It ran down my face- Teardrops- And dripped from my fingertips, So that all I touched Sparkled like morning dew. I have sat in winter watching, Snowflakes Wander from the clouds. They caught in my hair, And stuck to my lashes. Warmth flows ...
