While We're All Confessing...

Image
I've noticed a trend. Moms who are confessing to being 'less than stellar' on the internet. They tell the story of whatever it is they are/aren't doing, then their confession goes viral. They get interviewed by the news. People support them, hate them, shun and embrace them. Well, hell, I'm a bad mom, too. I mean, really, aren't we all? With the exception of a few celebrities who claim perfection, we're pretty much all in the same boat. Oh, our sins will vary, of course. Where one may not bathe her baby everyday , or another might multi-task till her kids are in danger , none of us does it all to perfection. Don't believe me? Case in point- It's 11am. I haven't dressed or even showered. There's a good chance I'll still be in pj's when my kids get home from school. I make sure my kids brush their teeth at least once every day.Or two days. (Their dentist loves me.) Our afterschool snacks all wear the name 'Little...

Manic Monday Re-Post

Image
Did you know when I started this blog, I wanted the title to be 'Drowning in Laundry'? It's true. But, that name had been taken. I'm happy with the title I ended up with, but the fact remains, drowning in laundry is my life. Especially today. So, I'm recycling a post.  Forgive me. Happy Arachnophobia Week  It isn't really Arachnophobia Week, but it should be. I mean, those of us who are afraid of spiders are obviously the smartest and most sensible people. So, in honor of my made up holiday, I'm composing a letter to all of the eight-legged critters who reside in my home. Dear Arachnids- I understand that you live in my house. I'm willing to let you stay, if you will agree to abide by a few basic rules. These will help us live together in peace. You will not hide in the dirty laundry so that when I put it in the wash, I find you crawling among the clothes. This makes it  impossible  for me to take the clothes out after the cycle ...

Working for a Living- The Good, Bad, Ugly, and back to Good again.

Image
Spongebob loves work. I'm more like Squidward. The Good - I'm working a temporary job. The Bad -It's 14 days straight , 10 hours a day. The Ugly - What my brain will look like after that much work. The Bad - I won't be blogging during the next two weeks. The Good - I have some fantabulous guest posts lined up. Do you like how I brought it back to the Good? I'm trying to find positives in what is going to be a long couple weeks. I decided to do this to earn a little 'summer fun' money, and for bills, too (which is no fun, but necessary).  The guest posts are from some of my Listen to Your Mother friends. These women are amazingly talented, and funny, and I know you're going to love them. So, tune in on Wednesday for the first post. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Manic Monday- My Dating Advice

Image
The Handy Man took me out for dinner on Saturday. Cafe Rio- my favorite. We went a bit late, and I expected the line to be short. Ha. But, if you've ever had Cafe Rio, you'd know, it's worth the wait. (If you haven't had Cafe Rio, and they're in your city- What are you waiting for? I recommend the grilled chicken salad with the house dressing. I could drink the house dressing. But, I don't, because they have diet Coke.) Anywho, we were standing in line right behind another couple. I nudged the Handy Man, "Married or dating?" He squinted at them. "He's talking awfully loud." I nodded, "I know. And look at her. Smiling VERY big and laughing at everything he says." We agreed. Dating. After we got our food, we ended up at a table next to this couple. Because the gentleman was so loud, I was able, without much effort, to hear pretty much their entire conversation. I wanted very badly to walk over and give both of them some d...

The Difference between Fan and Fanatic is a Fine Line

Image
If you could have dinner with any celebrity who would it be? I've been asked this before and honestly, my answer is no one. I'm a fan of many people, but, really, when you meet them, what do you say? "Uh...huh...I'm such a fan. You're so awesome. Like, totally." It's not like I have anything in common with Jennifer Garner or Sandra Bullock. Maybe I could give them beauty advice. I know. You're laughing. So are they. There is one celebrity, though, that I thought I'd like to meet. Are you ready? (Photo credit: survivor.wikia.com) Doesn't look familiar? Does this help? Yes, Dawn is a Survivor contestant. She was originally on a couple years ago, and is back this year as a 'favorite'. Why would I want to meet this 'celebrity'? Because we do have things in common. Dawn is from Utah, she is the mother of 6 kids and she's a Mormon.  (She's also a professor at BYU, so clearly, much smarter than me, but we...

Manic Monday- Don't Trust Internet Doctors

Noah has been sick for four days. Fever. Stomach stuff. Lethargic. Won't eat. Now, I'm not one of those paranoid moms who rush their kids to the ER for every cough and sniffle. I think I'm pretty level-headed. Until you add in the internet. This morning, Noah was on my bed watching Word World. I was being a really good mom and reading blogs. I looked over and he was sort of curled up. "My tummy hurts." I could see he meant it. Since I was on the internet anyway, I decided to get a little free medical advice. How could the internet be wrong?  I found my way to webmd and their symptom checker. After putting in his age and gender, I got down to business. Please check the following symptoms- Severe stomach pain -- check! Then a question- Is your child's abdomen swollen or hard (rigid) to the touch? Hmm. I got up, made Noah lay flat and pulled up his pj shirt. Oh, yeah. His stomach was rock hard, like he was trying to imitate Matthew McConaughey...
