A Random Gift

Wow. What a week. I was awarded the 'Most Versatile Blog' award-twice.  I'm honored. I'd like to thank the academy, wait, wrong award.  I do appreciate the two bloggers who gifted this to me.

First was Gillian at The Greener Bean.  I found her on last month's NaBloPoMo. She's young and cute and lives in New York City. Sort of my polar opposite.  I find her and her life completely fascinating.

Next came the award from Shelby at Every Little Blessing.  I first visited her blog because she was offering to answer photography questions. I keep visiting because she's an awesome writer.

The rules for the award are as follows-

  • Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to their blog.
  • Share 7 random things about yourself.
  • Nominate 15 fellow bloggers for the award.
  • Add the award badge to your post.
Now, I have two small problems with these rules. First, I've shared a lot of random things about myself lately.  That, and the fact that I blog means I'm sort of an open book. I've been wracking my brain all day for something interesting to tell. I got nothin'.  So, I decided to share some things that long-time readers may already know. If you've been with me a while, then let's see how many times you nod your head and say, 'yep, knew that'.

1- I'm a terrible singer. And I'm not just being modest. I'm awful.  I was generous enough to pass this trait on to my children. When we all sing together, it's laughable.
2-I've never broken a bone.
3-I worked for the CIA for about a year. I'd tell you what I did, but then I'd have to kill you. Just kidding. I was a Russian interpreter.  Ha. Not really. It was sign language- American Sign Language.
4- I've written two books. One will sit on my shelf forever. The other I'm trying to get published. It's a YA fantasy novel.
5- I don't like melons. Not even watermelon. And watermelon-flavored products? Gross.
6- I live in Utah, but I don't ski. I went once as a teenager and hated it. I refuse to go again.
7- I'm not superstitious.  But, if I break a bone in the next week, I might change my mind.

Now, the second problem. I'm supposed to nominate 15 blogs. Honestly, I don't have that many to nominate.  Most of the ones I read already have this award- because I only read award-winning blogs. And, I'm all about breaking the rules. Ok, I'm not. Breaking the rules makes me nervous.
So, instead, I'm nominating my new favorite blog.  Judy at Life...Minute by Minute.  She gets the award because we're kindred spirits. Every time I read her blog, I get the chills because we have so much in common. And, because she's a great writer and deserves to be award-winning.

  1. Okay, this is starting to creep me out now. But in a good way. The fact that you say you worked for the CIA as a Russian interpreter tells me you're a returned missionary. Yes? Me too! Venezuela Caracas! Okay, so I don't speak Russian, but still . . . (my son speaks Bulgarian). I also hated my teenage years - I cringe everytime I think about it, so I try not to :)

And I am very impressed that you've written novels. wow! Don't think I could do that.

Congratulations on your award! You certainly deserve it! AND, thank you for the nomination! I certainly DON'T deserve it, but I'll be smiling all day :) haha

  2. I think that if you win the same Most Versatile award twice, thats like saying you're the All Most Versatile. Sorry, that is my futile attempt at being funny before having the right amount of breakfast pumped into me, working solely off coffee.

  3. I love your list! And I hate melons, too. All of them. My kids love them, and they're happy to take mine off my plate for me. It makes me wonder if they are indeed my children. ;)

Good luck with getting your book published! Have you considered epublishing? I'm looking into it for a photography project I'm working on.

I really do love your blog. Thank you for your kind words!

  4. Judy-I guess my joke went wrong. I wasn't a Russian interpreter, I was a sign language interpreter. I did serve a mission, tho', working with the deaf. We may not look alike, but we seem to live alike.

esbboston- You always crack me up. It's true, I'm almost versatile.

Shelby- my kids eat melons, too, but then, so does their dad. I haven't looked into epublishing, yet. Maybe in the future.

  6. haha. As if sign language interpreting isn't touch enough - - I envisioned you being a russian sign language interpreter in the CIA - russian mafia, and all that. the machine guns made them deaf. that's how my mind works sometimes :)

  7. I prefer to combine the all double l with the most, so that condenses down to awesome.

Я предпочитаю, чтобы объединить все двойные L с самых, так конденсируется до удивительным.

  8. I'm impressed by anyone who can finish writing a book. I write A LOT, but don't know if I would have the attention span for a book-length work. (That concern strikes me as kind of weird given I have the attention span to READ lots and lots of books.)

    Watermelon-flavored stuff is icky.
