Of course...

Of course he has a perfectly good pair of shoes he could wear. Of course he doesn't listen when I tell him to wear the other shoes. Of course his grandfather encouraged him by telling him about the shoes he had like these. Of course they're comfortable, it's like being barefoot. Of course... he's 16.

    my 17 year old has a pair that look very similar to these...I keep threatening to throw them out...but he just loves them so much....

    Um, ya, Nik's got OCD with his shoes. He hates them being dirty or old. Wish he felt that way about his room. Not so much.

Love Week- Day One

Our home is decked out in red and pink. There are hearts, cupids, and banners that exclaim love and my desire to possess everyone in the house. Be Mine!    (I'm sort of selfish that way.) My kids get very excited for Love Week. Mostly, it's the candy. But, hopefully, they're also excited for the love notes they get each day.  Hopefully, they'll tuck these little treasures in their drawers and when they see them in May or August, they'll be reassured that they are indeed loved. I try to express love for my family every day. We say "I love you" a lot. I cook them dinners and wash their laundry--little acts of kindness that say I care. But, I think we all need a little something extra every now and then. And, in this day of technology and email and facebook, a hand-written note is rare. Christmas Tip #2- Cleaning

I was waiting for the maid to show up today. Tapping my foot. Couldn't believe she was late. Then I remembered. I don't have a maid. I entertain during the holidays for one reason- it makes me clean my house. I know, you're probably wondering why a queen would have to clean her own house. Mostly because the princes and princesses are like any other children and they don't understand the concept of picking up . There are some ways of cleaning that are more efficient than others, and with Christmas just around the corner, we need to make the most of our time. One, to mop or not to mop. In my experience, as soon as you mop the floor, someone will spill on it. And, it will probably be Kool-Aid. Red Kool-Aid. So, don't break your back trying to get that floor shiny. Spray  some non-stick cooking spray on the floor, then put on socks and skate your way around. It'll be so shiny you'll need to wear shades.  With that non-stick coating, when they do spill, ...

Thoughtful Monday

I'm in a thoughtful mood today. There is so much busy-ness in my life right now. A wedding in just 18 days. A son who will be going on a mission soon. Children in school. The Handy Man at work, always at work. And me. I sometimes wonder where I fit in to all of it.  I am the mother, the referee, the taxi driver, the cook and maid. But, it feels as though there should be more. I should be more. And, so... I write. It has been a week of serious writing.  Thanks to my amazing Writing Group I have written pages and pages.  My story has evolved and developed in surprising ways. I have found that I am happiest when I am 'doing'.  That is my challenge.  To focus and do. Do you have a passion? Something you cannot live without? I have many. My family always comes first. But, lately, my words are my passion.  I love the way they string together and paint images in my mind.  Words are very real miracles. They can make us laugh or cry, bring us comfor...
