What's up in the frazzled household? Here's the scoop-
- My baby turned six. 6. Not a baby anymore, which he is quick to tell me whenever I call him 'my baby'. (Which is what he'll always be.)
- We rang in the new year with my sister, her husband, my brother, his wife, and two of the cutest girls ever. They don't know me too well, but that all changed when I started feeding them broccoli from the veggie tray. We played ring-around-the-rosie and a rompin' game of hide-and-seek. Now, they love me and I'm pretty sure I'm their favorite aunt.
- The kids went back to school- hurray! In celebration, I went to the library and wrote like a mad-woman. Okay, not mad. I was quite calm. And quiet. It's the library, after all.
- My daughter and I had a long wedding talk. She's just waiting on the ring so they can set a date (some time in March-yikes!). It was a good talk. Afterwards, I went to the bathroom to study my reflection. My conclusion? I do not look old enough to be the mother of the bride.
- The temperature here in
hell Utah plummeted. We're talking 7 degrees when my kids leave for school. Good thing the furnace works. (Which it stopped doing the day after Christmas. Ever call a furnace repairman after hours? Try not to if you can help it. Anytime someone can say, "I'll charge $100 just to come to your house", it's a bad sign.)
- The Handy Man went back to work after six days off. That's more consecutive time off than he's had in years. I got used to having him around. When he went back I had some serious withdrawal. I made a chocolate poultice and applied it to my mouth. That helped.
Hope your week was good and that your new year started out GREAT!
you fed them broccoli?? and they liked it??
ReplyDeleteI know, funny, huh? The dip helped.
DeleteYour baby is just beautiful! Delighted to hear you'll be cranking out some more words soon. You'd be awesome to hang out with on the plane on the way to our Pulitzer recipient banquet. (:
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Chocolate poultice. Don't worry, the temperature didn't just plummet here, I can personally inform you that it's equally cold in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming.
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. Wyoming makes the rest of the country look like the sun-drenched tropics.
How could you not be their favorite aunt?!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read what you've been writing away...! Libraries are havens aren't they?
Oh...the baby being 6. My baby is 18 and six seems like just yesterday. My second oldest just turned 23. (The other three have birthday within a few weeks of each other in June & July.) Sometimes the passage of time just wallops us upside the head, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteSo you've been busy, is what you're saying? I think I may need to find out how you made that poultice. And I love that you are celebrating kids going back to school by turning into mad-writing-mom. This is all good news.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice to have a newly-turned 6 year old to keep you feeling young...especially when you're also doing the whole mother of the bride thing which might perhaps have the tendency to make you feel the slightest bit old-ish??
ReplyDeleteFeeding children trees (sorry broccoli), playing hide and seek, writing and chocolate poultice......sounds like you have been having a fab time. And favourite auntie, of course!
